Is ed2go Accredited?
No, ed2go is not accredited.  This is an excellent question, let’s take a minute to discuss accreditation.  If you are working toward your AA or Bachelor degree, you most definately want to take an accredited class.  Why would you want to take ed2go if you are working toward your degree?  Skills and confidence would be top on my list.  If you need to take a tough class and you’re not quite up to it, you may want to look through the ed2go offerings to see if there is one that will help you to prep for the class.  Since the grade won’t be on your official transcript, you can have the flexibility to take a class that will help you without pressuring you.  Another reason to take ed2go classes is for personal enjoyment.  If you’ve always wanted to study a field but haven’t ever gotten around to it, why not take an ed2go class?  Also take one if you want to explore new career fields or brush up on skill prior to a job interview.  Employers love it when you’ve taken the time to refresh you skills and knowledge!

How to sign up for an ed2go online continuing education community college course:

  1. Determine the online course that you need.  Do you need to update your job skills in an adult education environment?  ed2go offers diverse online educational opportunities with live instruction to assist you every step of the way.
  2. You can sign up directly on the ed2go website, or if you prefer, you can register with your local community college, or university. When you select ed2go.comfor your continuing education classes, you ensure your educational needs will be met while your tuition costs are the lowest possible.
  3. Check the ed2go online course cataglog.   ed2go courses can be registered for at colleges and universities.  (Or you may register directly with ed2go.)
  4. New online continuing education course listings with ed2go.com are updated monthly.
  5. Complete your registration with the Community College or other educational institution that you have selected.
  6. Enroll in the ed2go online community college course you have selected.
  7. You’ll always have a “live” instructor with ed2go courses, don’t worry – when you need help your instructor is there for you!
  8. Take the course at the time of day and location that’s convenient for you.  Is your schedule constantly changing?  No problems if you’re out of town on business or something unexpected pops up – you can do your online coursework at a time that is convenient for you!
  9. Each ed2go class includes 12 lessons, the equivalent of 24 hours of instruction.  You’ll have easy access to the instructor so you’ll be able to ask questions and get help and advice throughout the course.  At the end of the course you’ll be able to download a Certificate of Completion from ed2go.

ed2go provides continuing education courses online.  Do you know the difference between continuing education online courses and accredited online courses? What are the Basics of Online Community College Classes?

Online Community College Courses are great options for working adults.  When you don’t have the luxury of attending school full time, you may need to be creative about finding courses to round out your advanced education.  The logical place to start is with your local community college.

What Do I Need To Watch Out For?

When you are looking at your possible options for completing your education, consider if the college requires you to be present for any portion of the semester or quarter.  Some colleges offer classes that are strictly online, and are referred to as distance education.  If you are living a distance from the college this may be a good option for you.  Some online classes require you to be present at the school for an orientation class, and for exams.  If the college is located close to you, and your work schedule permits, this may be a good option for you.

Will I Be Wasting My Time?

If you are considering enrolling in a distance learning class you may need to consider if the units are transferable.  Are you attending college already and need a class or more to fulfill specific requirements?  This is a good time to check with your guidance counselor to determine if the units will be transferable.  This is an important consideration prior to enrollment in an online community college course.

Is it ALWAYS a Good Idea to Take my Classes Online?

NO!  Not Always!  Here’s are two examples!

  1. First, I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer at my local YMCA fundraising event recently.  The local Community College Firefighting Academy also volunteered with me.  During a long day slaving over the BBQ pit, I had the opportunity to quiz the future firefighters about their education, and whether they had been able to fulfill any classes online prior to their academy.  They said no, because the cadets go through all of their classes together, as team building.  So even if anyone had completed one or more classes beforehand, they would still have to repeat it with their unit.  So that’s a good example of when it would be a complete waste of your time to take your classes online before enrolling as a cadet!  So I’d recommend checking into your program beforehand.
  2. Second, I had a friend with two teenagers that attended the local junior college from the time they were in the summer between eighth grade and ninth grade.  They really worked hard!  One child was accepted to Harvard, yippee!  One child was accepted to UCLA, fantastic!  The child that entered Harvard was accepted as a Freshman, none of the community college units were accepted.  The child entering UCLA was accepted as a Junior, with ALL units accepted!  Was it a complete waste of time for the child that went to Harvard?  Your guess is as good as mine!  Would she have been accepted anyway had she skipped early enrollment at the local junior college?  Who knows!  Maybe the admittance board liked her hard work and dedication!  For a case like this you’d need to talk to the high school counselor, the transfer counselor at the community college, and the 4 year college that your child would like to enroll in prior to investing the time and effort into any classes.

Do I Need Expensive Equipment?

What type of computer and internet connection will be required?  Take a look at your existing equipment to determine if it is compatiblewith the course requirements.  If you are taking an english class and need to do extensive writing, your older computer may be fine.  If you need to take a CADD class or a programming class, you’ll probably need to consider the software you’ll need to purchase, and whether or not the computer you have will accomodate it.  Read more about computer requirements here:  Online Classes – Check Computer Requirements

What’s Next?

Once you’ve determined that the class you plan to enroll in will satisfy the requirements you are intending to complete, and will transfer over to your school, and that your equipment will operate properly, that leaves you with the enrollment and communication with the professor.  You’ll most likely be given instructions and a way of communication with the teacher.  You may need to provide an email address, and you may have to submit papers by mail.

When Can I Start my Class?

When it comes time to take your exams you’ll need instructions from the teacher.  Will you be allowed to complete the exam online or will you need to go to a proctored location?  If you are taking a distance education class you may need to find a suitable proctor to monitor your test taking.  You may need to ask the local community college in your neighborhood to provide a proctored test location.  Sometimes this is available for a fee.  If this is not possible and you need a proctor you might also contact your local library or high school.  It may take some searching, but it will be possible to find a professional that will certify as your proctor, if needed.  Try to find out early in the class period if this will be necessary, so that you can find a proctor if needed.
