These days you can’t begin to believe your options for taking online college classes at online colleges.  You used to have a very narrow variety of options, but now there seem to be more online classes than traditional classes.  Can you imagine why?  Here are the top 5 reasons you can find such quality and variety in online college classes, and why YOU should consider taking your first class right now, if you haven’t already!

1. Online college classes come to you, where you are.  It used to be that if you weren’t lucky enough to live near a college you’d either have to move, or skip college.  No more – you have a top selection at your fingertips, and they’re competing for your enrollment.  Some people make a big deal about being able to take your classes in pajamas, but that option is probably over-rated.
2. If you have access to the internet you have access to online college classes.  Prior to colleges being taught at online colleges you could find correspondence classes where you’d have to send your homework in to be graded and returned.  Possible, but lacking immediate responses from your instructors.  Better than nothing if you lived in a remote area, but not really convenient.
3. Work while you’re going to college.  Squeeze in 15 minutes here, and hour there, skipping the time to commute.  You’ll need to check out your requirements for being on campus.  Some classes require you to attend an informational meeting on campus, others don’t.  Make sure prior to enrollment which options are required and if you’ll be able to fulfill them.  You might also need to make arrangements for a proctored final exam.  Ask your online college first where you’ll have to take your exam.  They may send your final exam to your local high school, and you’d bring your ID to the school librarian, who would give you your test and then return it to your online college for correction.
4. Do you have some unfortunate circumstances in your life?  Is your glass half full or half empty?  Why not take advantage of some tough times to make sure there is a silver lining in your cloud?  There’s rarely anything better for your than to pay a bit of attention to yourself when you are down and out.  Let’s say you have a family member with a chronic illness that you’re a caregiver for.  There’s bound to be a few chunks of time when you have a free few minutes.  Whether your patient is napping, waiting for a doctor appointment, watching TV or just resting, you can spend a few minutes registering with an online college to take a class.  And why not?  If you’re not needed 24/7 but still need to be nearby in case of something that comes up, you can be working on your computer within earshot.  Slow and steady wins the race, why not put a little effort continuously toward your goals?

Some cautions about online college classes and online colleges.

Take a minute (or hour or two – more realistically!) to investigate the accreditation of the classes you’d like to take online.  There’s a big difference between community education classes and online colleges that are “junior colleges” or community colleges.  Check the accreditations.  Some schools have a goal of teaching you valuable skills so you can improve your job skills or become more marketeble in the job place.  These are both worthy goals, but if you need accredited classes these options may not be for you.  Ed2Go is an excellent example.  They offer numerous valuable courses, well taught and perhaps timely in helping you acquire new skills.  Rusty on a software program and think you’ll need it for an entrylevel job?  Great – take an Ed2Go class, but remember you’ll pay tuition for a certificate, not a diploma or degree.  Want to transfer to a 4 year degree?  Best advise we can give is to meet with your college campus staff prior to registration and find out about about accreditation and units that may be transferable to your next (4 Yer) college.
